How does Weather mini protect my privacy?

Weather mini handles only the minimum data needed for app functionality. Precise location may be used for location-based weather features you enable. If you grant notification permission and use Weather Summary and Alerts, a push-notification device ID or push token is used to deliver those notifications. We do not use this data for ads, third-party marketing, or third-party analytics, and we do not sell it. For more details, see our Privacy Policy.

Weather Data Source

Weather mini uses Apple's system framework, WeatherKit, for forecast weather data. Air Quality Index (AQI) data is provided by WeatherAPI.com. For WeatherKit source details, see Apple WeatherKit Data Source Attribution. For AQI data, see WeatherAPI.com.

Permissions & Current Location

Do I have to allow location?

No. You can fully use the app with the built-in offline city search.

When will the app ask for my location?

Location permission is optional. The app asks when you use a location-based feature such as Locate or current-location widgets.

After you grant permission and use Current Location once, the app may refresh your Current Location for weather and related app functionality, including from widgets. This refresh doesn't change the active city unless noted below.

If you prefer not to use location, keep location permission off in System Settings and select cities manually.

What you'll see on launch

Reopening from the background (via app icon or the Forecast widget):

  • If your last active city was a saved city: you'll see that city. If you've moved, Current Location updates silently but does not switch.
  • If your last active city was Current Location: you'll stay on Current Location. If your location changed, the app automatically switches to the new location and refreshes data.

Cold start (the app was terminated):

  • If you've used Current Location before: the app opens to Current Location. If that reading is 15+ minutes old, it refreshes immediately.
  • If you've never used Current Location: the app opens to your last selected city.

Launching from a city-specific widget (Details or Day/Night):

  • The app opens to that widget's city, even if it's different from your last in-app city.
  • Current Location may still refresh in the background but won't become active in this scenario.

When does the app switch cities automatically?

  • Cold start → switches to Current Location (only if you've used it before).
  • Launch from a city-specific widget → switches to that widget's city.
  • Reopen from background with Current Location active → if you've moved, it switches to the new location.

In all other cases, the app stays on the city you launched with.

Manual control

  • Pick any city from your city list.
  • Tap Locate (after granting permission) to switch to Current Location.
